Spendism? Hypercapitalism? Sure. But, you say them like they are good things.

Just because people are spending "money" (most of which is just created electronically as debt) does not mean the economy is healthy. As a nation we are borrowing against our childrens' futures.

So stores bought iPhones and people bought from the stores. So what? All that means is people have terrible priorities. Am I hurt for cash? No. Are most of the people that I know hurt for cash? No. Could we all buy more stuff on credit cards? Sure. But that's not the point. Even though I agree with you that we will see relatively little demand destruction from gasoline at twice what it is now, sooner or later people will have to stop buying things they don't absolutely need in order to be able to afford the things they do.

It's probably going to get worse before it gets better. Or if it does get better, it won't be for long.

Re: Coal is the Dotcom Equvilent of the 21st Century

HAHAHA!

Not that I don't think coal will continue to increase in price in years to come (I think it certainly will), but I LOVE that you recommended people buy coal related stocks on JUNE 30th!!! JUST TWO TRADING DAYS BEFORE THE START OF A MAJOR CORRECTION!

June 30 to July 18:

KOL: DOWN from 58 to 46.25
PCX: DOWN from 153.29 to 108.88
WLT: DOWN from 108.77 to 90.09
BTU: DOWN from 88.05 to 64.10

I hope you put your money where your mouth was and got in at the top. Don't worry, hold on long enough and you should be fine. But since you may be waiting awhile, you might want to check out FDG. They actually pay a dividend, unlike all your other picks.

Re: S&P 500 Still Not in Bear Market Territory

So, you invest $100,000 in the S&P in June, 1999. In June 2008, after riding the market all the way up and all the way back down, the S&P is where it started. Ah, but the dividends! The S&P averages dividends somewhere around 2%, give or take. So really your $100,000 from 1999 is now worth say $125,000 in 2008 (it would take a compounded rate of return of 2.51% to get you from 100k to 125k in 9 years, so I'm being generous).

Inflation? http://www.westegg.com/inflation/

$125,000 in 1999 would have been worth $101,416 at the end of 2007. That's according to the CPI, and I'm betting that's the CPI "core" which is ex food and energy. Buy any gas or food lately?

Now whose argument is invalid?

Re: 2008 Predictions part 2

Care to revise any of these predictions now that we're halfway through the year? Number 3 is already false. I disagree with all of your predictions and would be quite surprised if even ONE of them came to fruition.

I predict the S&P index will be dead money for the next 6-10 years, particularly when adjusted for inflation. I've been bearish on the market since October 07.

Re: Google must buyout facebook for $30 billion or more

you are one of the dumbest people i have ever read

Re: Apple Sells a Million iPhones; Proof US Economy is Robust

A Trojan Horse Inside The Bulls' Lair
http://tinyurl.com/trojanhorse

Re: Sh*t Boom!
